Our clinical protocols were created by Dr. Howard J. Shaffer, a world-renowned addiction specialist of Harvard Medical School fame.
All of our interdisciplinary staff — licensed psychotherapists, wellness experts, nutritionists and medical professionals — work together in our state-of-the-art addiction treatment center to make sure our luxury accommodations and individualized programs satisfy the needs of our upscale clientele. Our staff is integral to The Dunes’ goal of exceeding the “Best Practices” other recovery programs offer.

Our drug and alcohol recovery program begins with an initial interview and intake for each new client. We use The Syndrome Model of Addiction as presented by Dr. Howard Shaffer, Senior Program Consultant at The Dunes.

Holistic Treatment
At The Dunes East Hampton, we not only provide some of the most advanced methods of clinical services available for drug and alcohol addictions, but we also create an unrivaled recovery experience through our inclusion of holistic treatment modalities.
Intensive Outpatient Program
Built on the success of our residential program, we at The Dunes East Hampton opted to expand the options available to our clients by opening up an Intensive Outpatient Program. Like our residential program, this newer program is also centered amid the luxury and serenity of East Hampton, New York, but at a separate location than our private residential facility.
Dual Diagnosis Treatment
As part of our exclusive inpatient residential treatment program, The Dunes East Hampton functions as a dual diagnosis treatment center on Long Island, NY. It is not uncommon for those struggling with an addiction to also present a separate mental condition. The condition may be what led to substance dependency, but sometimes the substance abuse amplified the signs of the co-occurring mental disorder.
Addiction Intervention Program
The goal of an intervention is not to place blame and air grievances. Rather, it’s to help convince addicts that they need treatment, and that the intervening group cares enough about them to make sure they get it. Because substance abuse often includes considerable emotional pain, an intervention can be an extremely difficult experience, both for you and the addict. But in order to be effective, the focus must remain on convincing the struggling individual to seek help.
Long Term Drug Rehab
The Case Management Program and long term drug rehab at The Dunes prepares clients for the transition to living in recovery. After completing one of our drug and alcohol addiction treatment programs, clients still have access to structured scheduling, 360-degree continual care and e-Hab™, a proprietary virtual treatment protocol, all provided by The Dunes Professionals. Our compassionate, accessible staff offers persistent follow-up and ongoing guidance to ensure a lasting recovery.
Our Addiction Recovery Program and Facility
The Dunes offers a unique, comprehensive program of drug and alcohol addiction recovery care on a beautiful estate in East Hampton, New York. Our elegant private facility, located on the fabled East End of Long Island, is near all of greater NYC major airports and is easily accessible from New York City and the Mid-Atlantic states.
Dr. Shaffer works directly with our clients and he often uncovers the very issue that is blocking their progress. Doing this allows him to help them achieve a lasting recovery and lead happier lives. He also trains and advises our professional staff on the latest treatment protocols while encouraging them to provide such treatment with love and care.
Spirituality often helps alcoholics and substance addicts find hope and it can be useful in developing a strong recovery. With the help of our spiritual counselor, interested clients are offered the opportunity to develop and improve this component. They will be introduced to a range of classic practices, such as meditation and personal reflection.
For all clients we create a personalized, comprehensive treatment plan based on a thorough physical and psychological appraisal directed by Dr. Shaffer. Individual attention is the cornerstone of addiction treatment at The Dunes, so each client sees his or her counselor three times a week – and even more if the team or client finds it necessary. Treatment plans are reviewed and updated by the clinical team and the client every week, and the results are truly collaborative and fruitful.
